To be Fruitful

What a busy week over in Newton St Loe—our first activity in the Orchard, that neighbours the Walled garden was fruit tree pruning.

We were shown how to remove the water shoots from trees, and top pruning.

We cleared areas around apple trees to give them more light and to enable access to maintain the trees going forward.

We started a program of restorative pruning on the mature apple & pear trees-removing broken & diseased branches & water shoots.

Over the coming years we hope to restore them back to full health and productivity. Some of the tree varieties that appreciated our work today included : ‘Annie Elizabeth’, ‘Blenheim Orange’ and ‘Cornish Gilliflower’.

Well done everyone! A well deserved tea and cake break down in the village hall.
