On October 21st 2023, we launch our new Volunteer session at the Walled Garden for those who had expressed a desire to help in the garden but who were in full-time work during the week. Many offers of help cam through after people had seen our exposure on Gardener's World in May. (It is still possible to view on iPlayer‚ look for 'Gardener's World' Episode 8, we are half-way in that programme!)
Our Project Manager Wayne McMaster is leading the fortnightly sessions that run from 10am to 1pm. He's hoping that those interested in supporting this local Bath charity can help him to transform the upper section of the Garden over Winter.
"We are aiming to change the planting from annual vegetables to perennial flowers, shrubs and trees" explains Wayne. Our gardeners always wanted to arrive to a garden where they could sit and wander along winding paths. They also need shade in the summertime, all of this will be achieved when we make the conversion. We also have a pond to dig, and a training system on the south-facing wall to install before we plant the exotic fruit trees like nectarine and peach. Everything in the top garden will either be medicinal or edible but all with be beautiful", states Wayne.
If you'd like to get involved email info@growforlife.org.uk, or turn up on the day. We are looking for you to bring a pair of gloves, stout shoes, bring a drink and snack, there are toilets on site. We look forward to welcoming you to our growing family or gardeners and volunteers.
